About the Network

The CareerReady: Network is a free, national directory designed to help educators, school leaders, and career-focused decision-makers discover, compare, and connect with high-quality work-based learning (WBL) providers across the U.S.

Supported by American Student Assistance (ASA) in partnership with Advance CTE and other national organizations, the directory includes information on organizations offering the following types of work-based learning:

  • Career Fair / Career Day (Activities and events where learners are introduced to multiple industries or career options in a single setting)
  • Industry Speaker (Professionals visit classrooms or virtual spaces to share industry and career insights)
  • Workplace Tour (Learners visit a workplace to observe environments, operations, and careers)
  • Career Counseling / Assessments (Structured career guidance or assessment tools to help learners identify interests and pathways)
  • Job Shadowing (Short-term observational experiences where learners shadow professionals)
  • Mentorship (Formal/informal relationship where a professional provides ongoing guidance)
  • Internship (Short-term experiential learning integrating classroom knowledge with application)
  • Cooperative Work Experience (Structured learning model alternating classroom and practical, often paid, work experience)
  • Pre-Apprenticeship (Prepares individuals to succeed in apprenticeships by building foundational skills)
  • Youth Apprenticeship (Apprenticeship model for high school students combining classroom + paid work)
  • Apprenticeship (Combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction; may be registered with DOL)
  • Registered Apprenticeship (Meets DOL standards; culminates in a portable, industry-recognized credential)
  • Capstone/Practicum (A culminating, career-aligned project or supervised practical experience (e.g., clinical rotation, practicum, senior project) that applies accumulated knowledge and skills in a real-world or simulated work setting)
